While working on any inspired work of art there comes a moment of “no return” where the artist is left on the very edge of either finding or losing the painting. It means the success or failure of the painting. It can happen many times during the process of a painting, but this struggle must be present for the work for it to have any power. At these moments of no return every creative resource can be summoned to pull the painting through and give it life. The challenge of this struggle with art creates an exhilaration that is unique. As a painter and printmaker,and sculptor Neil Shigley concerns himself with the abstraction of form, in many cases the human figure. His work has been shown Internationally. His one man show of his woodcut prints at the Earle and Birdie Library Gallery in Pacific Beach was the focus of the television interview series for City TV entitled “San Diego Profiles”. He has two large scale sculptures in LasVegas San Diego. Along with his painting, printmaking and commercial work Neil also teaches drawing and illustration at San Diego State University and figure drawing at the Art Academy of San Diego.
